This is what happens when you don't
include a picture with your email.
Bob,
I gotta tellya, though I'm sure you know, it's tough being an atheist.
I get to feeling a little
down sometimes, when I think of how much bullshit there is out there,
and how useless it all seems. Sure, I have some atheist friends, but
they seem to be outnumbered. I don't get how so many people can be so
DELUDED about simple things. Why do people believe in god? I mean, I've
read books about it (How We Believe by Michael Shermer and Religion
Explained by Pascal Boyer are two good examples), and I still don't get
it! Why do people bother with something so stupid? Millions of 'em!
And not just Christians,
either. I'm even more disappointed in the people who have turned their
backs on Christianity just to wade into the shallow end of the pool.
They call themselves neo-pagans, wiccans, witches, Thelemites, and all
those other pseudo-religions that rub crystals and worship
poorly-defined gods or goddesses and think that they're somehow free of
religious bullshit. Don't they see how silly it is to reject one flavor
of bullshit for another? It's like quitting heroin for cocaine.
Still, it's good to know
that there is a growing number of people who don't need that shit. I'm
glad to be reminded that I'm not alone. I thought I was. Not completely
alone, but nearly. I haven't believed in god since I was maybe three or
four years old, and it's gotten me my share of shit, and I haven't
backed down. Maybe I won't ever be able to convince anyone that they're
wrong about god, but they damn sure won't be able to convince me,
either.
Your site cheers me up. It
makes me feel like a part of a growing community. I think the thing
that we as atheists need is some kind of solidarity. We need to move as
a unit if we want to effect any real change. Religion is too big a
monster to ever die on its own. But I guess we can't stop hoping.
Okay, so this was a little
less enthusiastic than the usual "You Rock!!!" letter, but I just
wanted to add my voice to the chorus.
Matt Towers,
Pittsburgh, PA

Matt,
I know what you're sayin' but you can't let it get you down. You
have to find whatever it is that brings you happiness, makes you feel
productive and creative, and pursue it... heavily. When it comes to
people who believe all that fucking nonsense the solution that I found
works best is to make them verbally express the height of the madness
they buy into.
Last week there was this Christian guy
preaching at Union Square. He had this test on an easel people could
take that claimed could win you $20 (written in huge letters at the top
of his sign) if you got them all right! The questions were things like;
Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever
used the Lords name in vein? And as each person admitted to the sin
against God he would say "So you're a liar, a thief, a blasphemer,
yadda yadda yadda...". It got a lot of people gathered around him
yelling and arguing. At one point he asked the crowd if there were any
atheists among them, and I couldn't keep it to myself any longer.
The first thing he said to me was "Okay,
you see that statue behind you?"
I said "Yes. George Washington."
"Okay, you tell me, how did that statue get there?"
And I said "People built it and put it there."
"Exactly." He said, as if I was falling right into his trap. "So people
made it and put it there. And how do you think YOU got here?"
And I said, "Wait, you're saying people built God and put Him there
too?!?"
"No no no!" he said. "That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying that
somebody had to make that statue for it to be there. How else could it
have gotten there? And someone had to make you too!"
And then I said, "I completely understand what you're saying!" Very
excitedly. "How can anything have gotten here without it being built by
someone or something? So then you're saying God was built by someone
too! I wanna worship whoever made Him! No, wait. I wanna worship the
guy who made that guy! No wait! Hold on!"
And he said "No. God doesn't apply to this rule. He's not of our
dimension. That rule doesn't apply to Him."
That's when I and others laughed at him. You have to look at it like
that or it will drive you insane. People can be very very stupid and
ignorant. I know that I changed my way of thinking when I didn't want
to be like that any more. And you have to make them feel that way too.
It's called "Tough love."
By the end of his speech I had him saying
dinosaurs were on the ark, Angels bred with men to make giants, and
people once lived to be 944 years old. All wonderful bible trivia that
they have to believe and makes a crowd like the one he had laugh at him, instead of behind his back
after they walk away.
One day at a time Matt. Hold it together
and enjoy the little things, like the things people let come out of
their mouth.
There's more comics, hate mail and fun stuff coming to make you laugh.
And use retorts like mine whenever you're staring in the face of
ignorance. That's what works for me.

Well maybe if Jesus had been a better person He
wouldn't be remembered for just comidy magnets. Did you ever stop to
think that for even a second?

| “You want answers? Contact me.” |
Im a 20 year old guy from the Uk.
You really need to know what your messing with. Dont piss away your
only chance of living and understanding this world by mocking it.
You want answers? Contact me.
Simon Lloydbottom
simoty@blueyonder.co.uk |
Finally someone with some answers! I'm so happy
that you've contacted me! Okay, here's the thing I want an answer to.
In Genesis it's very clear as to how everything began, the order in
which everything was created, and even the specified length of time
each thing took (The sun rose, and it was day. The sun set and it was
night). So here's my question: Where do the dinosaurs fit in with all
of this? I mean, they couldn't have been before the universe was
created (for obvious reason! Ha ha!), and there's absolutely no
mention of the dinosaurs in the Bible, so they weren't hangin' around
there. BUT all over the world we see now that dinosaurs actually did
exist! Weird, right?
So, Simon, what's the deal? This contradiction has
me thinkin' that the people who wrote the Bible weren't talkin' to God
and really deserve very little respect for the book they made up.
Again, I'm THRILLED you contacted me with answers.
Let's have it. So Simon says...? |

| “advertising & making jokes out of your sin is
even worse!” |
Hey Bob,
What you are doing to Jesus's crucifix is as wrong as it gets! You need
to learn to respect him & yourself because evidentely if you can't
respect him who's father created you him and of the universe you can't
have self respect! Now I am not saying that I am perfect and haven't
sinned in my whole life but advertising & making jokes out of your
sin is even worse! THINK ABOUT IT.....
Cecy Marquez
abercrombie82_chick@yahoo.com |
Cecy, there's nothing wrong with laughing at the
crimes you commit against God. You've gotta learn to laugh at yourself
and have a sense of humor about these things! I mean, everyone's guilty
of sinning, right? I'm just making light of the offenses against Christ
that I'm guilty of. That's all! Jesus! C'mon, it won't kill ya.
Bob |

Simon never
did respond to this.
| “And remember.... 'For all have sinned and fall short
of the glory of God.” |
So yeah, maybe its not your
religion, but you dont have to go that far. God loves you even if you
do this to his holy and sacred image. one day you'll find that out. i
pray that you will figure this out before you die or before he returns.
i will be praying for you whoever you are. And remember.... "For all
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:3

Yes, but we all fall short of the glory of
Superman too, doesn't mean we should worship made-up fellas, right?

“why would you create something that
simply disrespects a man so many millions of people love and worship?” |
Subject: What is
the purpose of doing this?
Mr. Smith,
I realize this is a free country, but why would you create something
that
simply disrespects a man so many millions of people love and worship?
Jay Manhardt |
I suppose that that's the very reason why I
disrespected Him.
You see, my belief is that He is in fact NOT God. Can you see how
millions of people worshipping Him might cause me to want to disrespect
Him?

| “Whatever happened to you to bring you to such a low
state in life?” |
Your work makes me sick! It's too
bad you waste your time and talent on such garbage. The saddest part is
that you don't care about the people you affect in a negative way.
Whatever happened to you to bring you to such a low state in life? I
feel sorry for you...
Damon S Rasmussen
damonras@hotmail.com |
Is this how you treat people who are at such a low
state in life? You kick them when they're down? You must not feel very
sorry for me if that's how you treat me!
You're a nasty, evil person. Thanks for nothin'!

Dear NORMAL Bob...
The only reason you remain alive today has nothing to do with God and
everything to do with the first amendment. Oh yeah, them old
white men was God Fearing folks. Lucky you. Enjoy, it's
later than you think...

Subject: What are you talking about?
Thomas Jefferson wasn't a God fearing man. In
fact, he himself edited a version of the Four Gospels that entirely
omitted all references to the divinity of Jesus, retaining only His
philosophical teachings.
Quote from Thomas Jefferson:
"I have examined all the known superstitions of the world, and I do not
find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming
feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology. Millions
of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of
Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has
been the effect of this coercion? To make one half the world fools and
the other half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the
earth."
SIX HISTORIC AMERICANS,
by John E. Remsburg, letter to William Short
More Jefferson:
"Christianity...(has become) the most perverted system that ever shone
on man. ...Rogueries, absurdities and untruths were perpetrated upon
the teachings of Jesus by a large band of dupes and importers led by
Paul, the first great corrupter of the teaching of Jesus."
And Thomas Paine wrote a book called The Age of
Reason that specifically denied the divine inspiration of the Bible.
Quote:
"I would not dare to so dishonor my Creator God by attaching His name
to that book (the Bible)."
Here, you need to visit
this page. That's where I got this information. You need to get it
