I love the drawing contests!

Drawing contests are a time when I finally get to sit back and let you entertain me! I also get to see all of your wonderful imaginations at work on the topic that entertains me most! And this one is pretty easy to direct, because one of my hate mailers will be doing the directing for me! Check it out:

Subject: A great idea [in regards to Jesus dressup]

Bob, can we make Him look like this: Clothed with a lone robe and with a gold sash around his chest, the hairs of his head white like wool, as white as snow, His eyes like a flame of fire, His feet like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, His voice like the roar of many waters, in His right hand , seven stars, from his mouth a sharp two-edged sword and His face like the sun shining in full strength.

Or maybe this picture: A white horse. The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and make war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems, and He has a name written that no one knows but Himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which He is called is 'The Word of God' and the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

Every knee will bow and and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord... that means you too, Bob. When you choose to bow makes all the difference in the world.

Your lover,

“I really don't think it's right to make fun of other people's beliefs.”

Subject: Your website

Hi, I really don't think it's right to make fun of other people's beliefs. You may not be a Christian, but why poke fun at them? Especially in such an offensive way. Why have you created this web page?

But making fun of people's beliefs is the last thing to make fun of in this world! If you ban the practice of making fun of beliefs then none of us will ever be able to make fun of anything ever again!

Seriously, don't take that away from us because lot's of times people believe some pretty funny things. And besides, it's just a joke. Where would we all be if no one could tell jokes any more?

“I don't really understand why someone who has decided not to believe something, then feels the need to either ridicule it or to try and disprove it.”

I get where you're coming from. It's just that there are so many people out there who seem to be trying to offend others - I don't really understand why someone who has decided not to believe something, then feels the need to either ridicule it or to try and disprove it.

Sorry if I took your site the wrong way but you must admit that looking at it from a Christian's perspective it seems like your trying to make a negative statment about Christianity. Just try to think about how others are gonna view it... I think it's best to try not to offend if possible.

Thanks for not ignoring my email.

What about if the reason that I'm making a negative statement about it is because I don't think the story is true? Wouldn't that then be reason enough for me to make fun? I mean, c'mon. You're saying that there weren't dinosaurs? Or if there were they were around just a few thousand years ago? Either that or Genesis' version of the beginning of the world is folklore or whatever? And Noah's Ark and the earth flood? Puh-leeze! And the kangaroos got back to Australia how? Ha! And how is it that Jesus' death was a sacrifice when He just got to come back to life again? And not only that but then He got to go to paradise for how long? Forever?? I sooooo don't feel sorry for Him!

Oh man, sorry. I get started on makin' fun of beliefs and I can't stop!

“You click on the link for the page and find a drawing of your fiance whilst in the midst of their suffering... and there is the option to dress them up in silly costumes.”

Ok, so you don't think Christianity can exist? Well, I guess that's your point of view and that you've looked into it. My problem is that putting a website up that ridicules what other people believe, however silly it may seem to you, is bound to offend someone.

Let me try to explain why it's upsetting. There's a lot of imagery in the bible about how Christians or the church is the bride of Jesus. A bit of a weird image but bear with me. Imagine that you're engaged to someone who you believe is utterly perfect and wonderful and you really love them. The thing is that they've suffered in their lifetime. You're browsing the internet and you come across a friend's website. This friend knows your fiance and has a page dedicated to them. You click on the link for the page and find a drawing of your fiance whilst in the midst of their suffering. Let's say they had a medical problem and were in hospital, so this picture is of them lying in pain on a hosptal bed. There is the option to dress them up in silly costumes. Wouldn't you be upset, angry and ready to jump to the defence of your loved one?

If you don't think Jesus suffered then maybe you should read up a bit on what happened to him. Not only was he a homeless outcast for at least the last three years of his life, but before his death he was beaten 39 times with a whip that had bits of metal and bone attached to it. A crown of thorns was pushed onto his head and he was hung on a cross. The three days before his ressurection were not exactly fun and games either. He was in hell.
I'm not going to try and prove to you that God exists because if that were possible then there would be no point in faith - you have to believe it, there is no solid proof. It's a choice. I know from personal experience that God is real. He is 100% real to me because he has affected me and I have felt him. I obviously can't show you this as it is personal to me but being a Christian changes lives. It has certainly changed mine and that's how I know that Christianity isn't a joke.

The things that confuse you about the creation theory etc are all very up in the air for Christians. None of us has an answer because, believe it or not, none of us were there at the beginning of time! The evolution theory is a theory. The creation theory is a theory. We don't and never can know what happened, and even if we could, it doesn't change the fact that it happened the way it did, so what relevance is it? Something far more relevant is whether you need God in your life or not. That will actually affect you.

Sorry, bit of a lengthy reply, but I do love Jesus and I do want to stick up for him.

Had you ever considered that all of the conditions for your beliefs could also work perfectly for promoting a lie? Like, you being unable to prove anything, the requirement of showing it respect because the story includes great suffering, all while establishing a platform that sits outside the box of question or criticism? In fact, your belief in this unprovable historic event which contradicts facts (dinosaurs existing for millions of years before us, languages evolving slowly over time and not a result of a curse from the Tower Of Babel, Bible-time people living 900+ years, how can there be a heaven while your loved ones suffer eternally, etc) even goes so far as to make doubting it an act of evil, and not believing in God Himself a crime worthy of eternal suffering. There are so many requirements for its believers to resist searching for truth outside of the Bible, it really looks suspicious. I personally am not familiar with any real honest truth which tries so venomously to avoid question, criticism and doubt. This alone would inspire me to reevaluate the entire situation. Sounds like a very fishy car salesman indeed!

But as you said, none of us can ever be 100% sure what historical events happened and which ones are fake, so that leads me to this- How come you're so sure that yours is so true? I mean, I understand that there's no way you can put into words how you know for sure you're right and every other religion on the face of the earth is wrong, but are you telling me there's nothing that separates you from them? There's no examples that separate your god from the Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Scientologists, or any of the other 5,000 religions that've affected people's souls and changed lives throughout history? Affected them to the extent that they too have come away with personal experiences that've proved to them their particular god is definitely the One True God? Then centuries later their beliefs in Zeus & Thor were scrapped as obvious fakes due to lack of proof?

I'm sorry, but the more I step back and look at what you're tryin' to sell me the more it looks like you're just another person on the face of the earth who's made up her own version of the supreme being in your brain and's trying to sell it as truth.

Sonia, I am an atheist. When I step back and look at believers of all faiths I see a pattern. I see a world history of people who were absolutely sure that their god is truly true no matter what science, logic, and everyone else says, never addressing the issue of how certain they are while at the same time explaining how there's no way to be certain.

It's a pickle, Sone! What's a guy like me supposed to think? I mean, logically I'm sure you can see why I'd think you were just as delusional as the Moonies.

Thank you for your email.
